Do we get lucky? Lucky Girl Syndrome and more, explained

It’s been a running joke between me and my friends that we get two New Year's in a year! The first is the one on January 1st, while the second is the one during Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year).

It’s a comforting thought, getting a second shot at a new beginning. And during the Lunar New Year celebration, it comes with our Asian culture to check out what the Chinese community is doing to get a prosperous start to the lunar new year!

Below are some new things I have discovered. We already eat tikoy, give ang pao, and 12 fruits during the New Year holiday so I did not include those here.

A quick search of what to do to be lucky showed a lot of exciting results. I narrowed it down to four that we may do because they are relatively easy to do or practical (or both).

watch here or read:

1.Wear blue or decorate with something blue.

It’s the year of the water rabbit and blue is seen as a lucky color. It represents the ease and flow that comes with water.

2. Fill your rice container to the brim

By welcoming a new beginning with abundant food, you set the pace for the rest of the new year with a wish and prayer of never running out of necessities. Aside from rice containers, you can also refill your salt or sugar containers.

3. Put money in your pocket or wallet

You can put money or coins in your pocket with the hope that you will also not run dry of money this year. I hope we can all have this sense of abundance in our hearts so we can all welcome the actual abundance to come our way.

One of our mentors said that money has its own life. It comes to the person ready to receive it and flees a person who will waste it.

4. Pay off debt when you can

The new year is also a good way to start with a clean slate. If you have the means to do so, clear off some debt. Not only does this mean you are already improving on your finances, but it can also be a good way to reconnect or mend strained relationships with the creditor or lender. If you cannot settle the debt in full, partially paying them can start a good precedent for your debt management.

Lucky Girl Syndrome

While following the steps above may or may not result in good luck all the way, the reason we do it is we want to feel lucky. We want that good energy to tell us we will do great this year.

It fits well in the concept (which I luckily found on Tiktok) and it’s called the Lucky Girl Syndrome. Some Tiktok girlies would call it delusion, but who gives a f*ck anyway, you should just continue to live life telling yourself everything good is happening to YOU.

You tell yourself you are the luckiest, most blessed girl in the world. And everything good happening to you now and tomorrow is because you are showered with lots of good fortune.

If something goes wrong, fine, the next lucky thing will happen later, then.

This is a lucky girl syndrome.

But, Do we really get lucky?

As a person who has never really considered myself lucky in my daily life, my answer would be, maybe.

Luck is so flimsy and uncertain. It comes far and few in between that when it hits me, I would even recognize it as luck. I would think I worked long and hard enough to make it come true.

I get “lucky” after I tried doing the same hard work over and over again. For example, I put in work daily to talk to as many clients as I can. I would even call some to follow up, because really, what progress will happen to one’s life if no one bothers to check on them? It’s scary to even talk to people with a fear of rejection. But we still do it anyway.

And after numerous unanswered calls, ignored messages, and snubbed replies, the right clients come through. Was it because of luck? Maybe. Was it because I made the effort to reach out to all and finally tap the one who wants it? I think so.

But even then, I am thankful for both the luck and effort that brought me here.

I believe I was only “lucky” because I put in effort.

But I wish I can also be lucky just by doing the bare minimum. But I know it does not work that way.

Let’s be lucky and fulfilled! I'd love to hear your stories about luck! Please feel free to comment or send us a message!
