5 Ways to Express Your Love on Valentine’s Day

Finding the perfect Valentine’s gift for your partner can be stressful because you want to provide nothing but the best for them. However, aside from buying them presents, there are ways to show your love that don't necessarily involve material things, you may even be unconsciously doing some of them!

Aside from gifts, words of affirmation, physical touch, spending quality time, and performing acts of service make up the 5 love languages. And they’re really practical too, especially if you have a tight budget. Here’s how you can show your partner you love them.

  • Words of Affirmation

People who fall into this category are vocal about their feelings. They don’t show, they tell. Does your partner often tell you how much they love you? Do they frequently compliment you on your appearance, or on a dish you cooked? If your answer is yes, then your partner expresses their love through words.

It’s quite easy to reciprocate! If your partner is usually the first to tell you they love you, then surprise them by saying it first. If you’re not quite comfortable being vocal about your feelings, you can send them a text message or even sneak in a handwritten note in their bag or baon to show your appreciation for them.

  • Physical Touch

These people might not be the most vocal about their feelings but they show their love in a subtler way, by being physically affectionate. In other words, touchy sila. If your partner likes to hold your hand, touch your shoulders, or always asks for a hug or cuddles, then you know which category they fall into!

However, people don’t always share the same love language. If your partner isn’t as vocal about their feelings, you may feel frustrated because you might think they don’t love you as much as you love them. To avoid arguments, why not come up with your own language? For instance, three shoulder taps could mean I love you. That way, you’ll be reassured of their love for you.

  • Quality Time

Nothing shows love and commitment than by spending time with your loved one. Despite our busy schedules, it is heartwarming for your partner to know that we can set aside one-on-one time just to talk about our day, a new kdrama we’re watching, or a funny incident that happened in the day.

You can invite them for a walk or a simple weekend out. Some people I know make it a point to schedule a date every other Friday, to keep the romance alive. The important thing is you spend time together.

  • Acts of Service

Another subtle love language is doing acts of service. This could be taking over chores like cooking dinner or folding the labada. Nothing says partnership quite like sharing the load di ba? It would be more frustrating if your partner always tells you they love you but they don’t show their consideration if you’ve had a long day or if you’re tired.

If you want to spoil your partner, why not make them breakfast in bed, draw them a bubble bath, or even offer to make their coffee? It’s things like these that show you care about their wellbeing.

  • Gifts

Gifts are the most obvious form of love language because there is a physical manifestation and they are often tangible. You can immediately see gifts unlike the other 4 love languages.

If you have the budget, why not give them jewelry, clothes, or perfume? But, if you want to be practical, give them things they can use like a gadget or an insurance plan like the Smarter Life Elite.
